The Town of Mt Laurel Chosen for 2016 Southern Living Idea House

For more than 25 years, Southern Living magazine has inspired readers with the stunning architecture and interiors inside its annual Idea House. This year, in celebration of the magazine’s 50th anniversary, its editors have chosen The Town of Mt Laurel as the location for the 2016 Southern Living Idea House. Located on the edge of Shelby County, Mt Laurel was a natural selection for the Birmingham-based publication, a tribute to its current headquarters.

Nationally renowned Birmingham architect Bill Ingram was selected for the Idea House project and will work with Mt Laurel’s Town Builders, Inc. to construct a home that fits the community and Southern Living aesthetic. Mt Laurel resident David Brush has been chosen as the landscape architect. To recognize each decade of the magazine’s history, five Southern Living-approved designers will be assigned rooms, each offering a modern take on their designated era. Idea House sponsors include, but are not limited to: James Hardie®, Marvin, Thermador, Wellborn Cabinet, Inc.®, Webb Concrete and Building Materials, Lennox®, and Delta®.

“For The Town of Mt Laurel to be hand-picked to host the 50th Anniversary Southern Living Idea House is quite an honor,” says Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Ray Jackson. “Our community embodies all that Southern Living stands for by embracing a natural environment with a walkable town center, broad sidewalks, front porch friendliness, multiple parks and green spaces, and leaving all the beautiful trees throughout the neighborhood.  We expect the opening of this special home to attract guests from all over the Southeast, especially Birmingham families.  It is estimated that over 20,000 guests will view this home at Mt Laurel during the six months it is open to the public.”

Construction has started on the Idea House and will be completed by June 2016 in time to host tours through the rest of the year.
