Mt Laurel residents have access to the freshest, most local produce available, straight from the Mt Laurel Farm. The Mt Laurel Farm is now taking requests for shares in this year’s CSA program. Best of all, members can pick up their weekly supply of fresh produce at the Coosa Riverkeeper’s office located in the Mt Laurel Town Center!

The Mt Laurel Farm is a small scale sustainable fruit and vegetable production farm that uses responsible agricultural practices associated with organic and naturally grown farming methods. They grow everything without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or any other conventional farming methods. Their practices help to build healthy soils, which not only produce healthier, better tasting produce, but also preserves the land and natural resources for future generations.

The Mt Laurel Farm produces a variety of crops. Examples of spring and summer crops include radishes, carrots, beets, turnips, greens, summer squash, cucumbers, potatoes, heirloom tomatoes, peppers, okra and flowers. Examples of fall crops include radishes, beets, carrots, greens, beans, and flowers.

So what is a CSA share?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a unique way to directly support a local farm. The method of growing and distributing food involves the farmer selling the season’s crops in advance of the growing season to individuals who are considered shareholders or members. After production begins, the CSA members receive a portion of the harvest on a weekly basis throughout the growing season. The philosophical foundations of the CSA are that the risk and reward of food production should be shared by the farmer and the consumer. Not only does it help the farmer by providing the means to buy seeds and supplies at the beginning of the season, the CSA also helps to provide for a community of people who are interested in farming and where their food comes from.
