14th Annual Shake and Bake 5k Race Returns
On the first Saturday morning in August, runners will gather in the Mt Laurel Town Center for the 14th Annual Shake and Bake 5k run. This family friendly 5k race will take runners through the beautiful and shady tree-lined streets of Mt Laurel.
The annual race was started 14 years ago as a fundraising opportunity for various soccer ministries on behalf of the Alabama Women’s Soccer Foundation. This year’s race benefits Vapor Ministries, a Christian organization whose goal is to glorify Christ by advancing the gospel and serving the poor.
According to Houston Hollingsworth with Vapor Ministries, “One of the key ways we do this is through our discipleship-making soccer leagues at their centers in Haiti and Africa.” Houston explained, “Last year, the event raised over $13,000 for Vapor Ministries. Our goal would be to exceed $15,000 for this year’s event.”
The annual race offers a USATF certified course that welcomes runners of all ages and ranges of experience. Cash prizes are given to the top two male and female finishers and awards are given to the top two finishers in each age group. After the race, participants can enjoy Steel City Pops and shop the Mt Laurel’s Farmers Market and the Mt Laurel Town Center merchants.
