Mt Laurel Resident Spotlight: The Torres Family
We often say that to know Mt Laurel is to experience it in person – to walk our wide sidewalks, to eat at one of the restaurants in the Town Center, or to explore one of our finely crafted homes. Another way to learn about Mt Laurel, talk to the people that live here. After all, our residents are truly what makes Mt Laurel not just a neighborhood, but a true community.
We are setting out to spotlight Mt Laurel residents and learn first-hand what it’s like to live in a one-of-a-kind community. Today, we’re introducing you to the Torres Family, Josh and Wendy Torres along with their two daughters, Madison and Olivia, who moved to Mt Laurel in July 2016.
Did you live in Birmingham before you moved to Mt Laurel?
JT: We lived in the Birmingham area prior to moving to Mt Laurel, and we were simply ready for a change.
Why did you choose to move here?
JT: We have lived all over the US. I’m originally from Queens, NY, and my wife is originally from Albany, GA. Most recently, we’ve lived in New Bern, NC; Northport, AL; and Chelsea, AL. We decided to move to Mt Laurel because the neighborhood felt like it was more of a vacation getaway and not just another subdivision.
What do you do and what do you like about living in Birmingham?
JT: I’m an attorney for EBSCO Industries, Inc. where my practice focuses on the legal aspects of data security, privacy and complex technology transactions. In addition, my wife and I are also authors of three children’s books — This Little Tiger, This Little Elephant, and This Little Dawg. We love living in Birmingham because the majority of our family has relocated here; it’s a great place to raise our family; and it’s not too far from the beach.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Mt Laurel?
JT: We love doing everything in Mt Laurel. We spend a lot of time with our kids at the park, the lake and the pool. As a family, we enjoy driving our golf cart throughout the neighborhood and enjoying the amazing scenery. And we also love visiting our favorite places to eat (Area 41 Pizza, Shiki Sakura, and Jimbo’s), which are all located in the neighborhood and easily accessible on our golf cart.
What do you love most about your home?
JT: We love the quality of our home. When we walked into the home the first time, we could tell that special care was taken in its construction.
Do you have a favorite hangout place here?
JT: In terms of hanging out, I think our favorite place is the lake. Our kids love playing in the sand and building sand castles.
Do you have a favorite Mt Laurel memory?
JT: Thus far, my favorite memory is of my children hunting Easter eggs in our courtyard and the neighborhood. Easter is a special holiday in our family, and Mt Laurel, while it is always beautiful, was especially gorgeous during the early spring. Combining the two made that special time a memory I’ll never forget.
What would you say to people that are thinking about moving here?
JT: I would say … don’t think about it. Just do it. You won’t regret your decision. It’s vacation every day in Mt Laurel.
